Abstract
Supervision is a process in which the relationship between the involved participants is central for initiating and maintaining the learning process. The present paper is based on processoriented supervision in nursing, the goal of which is to develop or strengthen the professional identity and where all members in the group are responsible for sharing and analysing their own experiences during the act of supervision. The aim of this study was to describe processoriented supervision in nursing from the supervisors perspective. Data was collected by open-ended questions. Twenty-one teachers at the College of Health Sciences participated. All were educated in and had experience in processoriented supervision. The responses were analysed according to a qualitative approach. It was found that there was a need for processoriented supervision, in which the supervised had the possibility to grow and develop in their professional role. It was considered important for the supervisor to have a sensitive ear, courage, caution, perseverance and responsibility, likewise a structure for creating a reliable learning climate. The teachers described their management of different phases and how they were using different questions in the phases. Our conclusion is that having courage for introspection gives the basis for the genuin human as a professional.
