Abstract
The aim of this study was to gain knowledge about “The good visit — for the citizens with dementia and their relatives, when the residence is a nursing home”. The study assumes a phenomenological-hermeneutic approach inspired by Ricoeurs interpretation theory and using observation and qualitative paired and individual interviews with 3 relatives and 4 nursing aides. Findings are described as “The worst and the best at the visit”, “The process of the visit” and “The relieved talk”. The study concludes that the good visit is connected with confidence, recognition, life courage and happiness. The content consists five phases: the thoughts before the visit, the recognizable first view, attentively conversation and activity, the quiet farewell and the thoughts afterward. The visit can be supported and developed through informal relieving conversation between relatives and staffs.
