Abstract
Music, touch and visual art can contribute to increased self-awareness, empathy and reflection, but can also be used in communication and patient support.
The objective of this article is to describe why and how music, touch and visual art can be used in a communication course. The course was given a positive evaluation from a majority of the students (N=359), especially the exercises dealing with touch and music. The students found themselves becoming more conscious of how to utilize music in the nursing process and the significance of touch. The results of the inquiries may indicate that further development of practice and reflection using music, touch and visual art is valuable in a nursing program.
