Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between birth order, vocational choice, choice of college, and selected personality characteristics among Black college students. The 16 Personality Factors Question naire, the Assessment of Career Decision Making, and a research questionnaire were administered to a sample of 231 students enrolled in freshman orientation classes at Grambling State University, Grambling, Louisiana. Analysis of variance revealed no significant differences among the birth order groups. It was concluded that the validity of birth order theory for Black college students should be questioned.
