New developments in the areas of the synthetic fiber production of polypropylene, polyesters, polyamides, and acrylics are described. In the area of polypropylene fiber production, the synthesis of metallocene-based polypropylene materials is discussed. The new technologies described for polyesters include ultra-high speed melt spinning, bacterial polyesters, and the thermotropic polyester fiber, Vectran™. Polyamide topics include Nomex™, Kevlar™, and Technora™. The high speed spinning of acrylic fibers is also described.
