Abstract
Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) elastomers are innovations from the basic polymer work which was done by professor Otto Bayer and his co-workers. This work was initiated in 1937 in the laboratories of Bayer, AG of Germany. This work came to fruition with the first commercial uses of thermoplastic urethane in Germany under the trade name of Igamid U. These new and interesting pro ducts found their way into the United States in the late 1950's and early 1960's.
