Abstract
Development and understanding of the principles of polyure thane science has led to new progress in the technology of film formers. Of particular current interest are those compositions de signed to provide finishes for microcellular and integral skin foams and for fabrics. Primarily as a result of stimulus arising from introduction of the polyurethane rubber bumper, new polyurethane lacquers have been demonstrated to possess acceptable per formance but could stand improvement in application engineering. Flexible polyurethane-melamine copolymers exhibit promise in performance in these uses and are easier to apply. The prosaic oil modified urethanes provide a basis for further development of flexible types in approaches which maximize urethane rather than oil.
