Abstract
The copolymerization of 3,3,3-trichloro-propylene oxide (TCPO) with 1,3-butadiene (BD) has been described. Copolymers with different chlorine content have been prepared in good yields, vary ing the mole ratio of the two monomers. TCPO/BD copolymers can be co-vulcanized with elastomers containing unsaturated linkages. The addition of TCPO/BD copolymers to natural rubber does not appear to have a detrimental effect on the physical properties and results in improved retention of tensile strength on heat aging at 100°C.
