Abstract
There are in excess of 600 separate rubber molded parts on each automobile. Each automobile now has more than 200 pounds of elastomers in it. Due to increased use of accessory items, high performance engines, transmissions and air scoops, the number of elastoplastics parts is significantly increased on 1970 models. The newest innovation in sealing is the hydrodynamic seal. This design allows for hydrodynamic shearing forces which prevent the escape of fluid from the system and return excess fluid back into the system.
