Abstract
There is an unspoken theoretical assumption, among criminologists and noncriminologists alike, that jail is a place criminals try to avoid. Consciously, of course, most of them do. But, unconsciously, many of them want to go to prison for the reasons suggested in the following article, which is based upon several well-documented case studies.
