Abstract
This article delineates the various responsibilities and functions of a lawyer representing a preschool child in a contested custody case. Within the context of a case history, the author discusses and recommends procedures and techniques for dealing with many of the problems and questions encountered during such a representation. The article stresses that the attorney's effectiveness is enhanced by a knowledge of child psychology, in general, and of attachment behavior and separation reactions, in particular.
