Abstract
This paper addresses some of the dilemmas currently inherent in forensic psychiatric programs and suggests methods in which hospital clinicians can redefine their roles. Assessment procedures for forensic patients is discussed and recommendations are made that might improve clinical decisionmaking through the implementation of statistical procedures. In addition, the Texas project on developing statistical criteria for the determination of dangerousness of the mentally disordered offender is discussed.
