Abstract
The current debate over civil commitment is often drastically polarized–-but sometimes in the most unexpected ways. The following article reflects some paradoxical thinking by a law professor advocating the abolition of involuntary civil commitment and a professor of psychiatry pressing for greater freedom for psychiatrists to commit mental patients.
