Abstract
There are a lot of articles in the literature concerning description of insanity acquittees—demographics, diagnoses, frequency and success of the plea, results of release, and examiner characteristics. This article is one of few that examines retrospectively the appropriateness of insanity pleas and verdicts, and discusses possible reasons for inappropriate Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity (NGRI) verdicts.
