Abstract
There is an increasing need to educate women on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of osteoporosis. It is vital that the information be transmitted to women in a clear and concise format, thereby increasing an understanding of the subject. This project considers this need using such educational approaches as cooperative and translational learning. Once pertinent scientific data are collected, the project includes the compiling of a fact and questionaire sheet to be mailed to women at risk in the local community. In addition, the authors are involved in the community service program which is part of the curriculum in the University of Pennsylvania's School of Dental Medicine. Information has also been available at various shows and seminars. Through these efforts, a larger population of women will be educated, resulting in a greater understanding of the options available in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of osteoporosis.
