Official dissolution methods should always be tried first. If these do not work, however, an alternative method should be accepted. In choosing a method, the physiological relevance should be the prime consideration. Some commonly used dissolution apparatus and physiologically relevant dissolution media for immediate-release tablets and gelatin capsules will be discussed.
