Abstract
The Portable DesktopTM is an integrated, computer-based approach to providing access to training, reference, and project documents, as well as permitting sharing of data with other applications, such as word processing and databases. Portable Desktop instructional modules are hypertexts integrating training with advice, instruction, and examples so that end users can go into depth when they so desire. The integrated hypertexts comprise a knowledge base. An overall design has been developed, based on Petrie nets, facilitating validation of the hypertexts and making enhancement and customization more controllable and less consumptive of resources than they otherwise would be using conventional design models.
