Abstract
This article describes the carrier's needs and a courier's priorities when dealing with laboratory samples. Although “the carrier” only covers one step in the process of using a central laboratory in clinical trials, it has been found to be key to the operation's success or failure. In clarifying the information requirements of all carriers, and the extra service that can be provided by a “courier,” this paper provides insight as to which type of carrier to choose, the issues to cover within that selection process, and then how best to be successful.
