Abstract
The use of optically based data storage devices is rapidly spreading throughout the pharmaceutical industry. There are often misconceptions regarding this new technology and its application in our industry. This article will attempt to clear up false notions regarding optical disks. A general description of the technology is given, including a comparison of the various types of optical storage media. A discussion of potential pharmaceutical applications involving optical disks will be explored, and the advantages of this new technology over other forms of data storage is discussed.
