Abstract
Basic management principles are reviewed in the context of modern day issues related to information services planning. Environments requiring drug information services include academia, healthcare delivery institutions, government, and manufacturers. In those settings, information services have not enjoyed the tremendous growth or development as in other industries. Using selected examples, ideas for creating, developing and influencing the direction of medical information services are explored. In addition, issues that need to be addressed in future planning activities are reviewed
