Abstract
A structured technique for software validation is discussed for the three major categories of software used in clinical trials systems: data capture, data management, and report generation. The technique emphasizes structured, modular software design; algorithmic validation; single-thread system design; and the use of database structures (including meta-data structures) to increase software reliability.
