Abstract
In September 1983, a preliminary paper on the testing of drugs in the elderly was produced by the Food and Drug Administration. Since that time, workshops and individual scientists have commented on its contents. The deliberations about the content of the paper are discussed as well as the plan for its incorporation into clinical guidelines.
