Medical science and the medical profession have different bases for forming opinions with respect to the impact of OTC switch on the public. Medical science has insufficient data to form and feel comfortable with strong opinions, but what data it does have do not bring alarm. In contrast, the practicing medical profession is likely to have experience with OTC switch drugs that is confined only to alarming experiences. We can expect that both of these perspectives will receive attention and will be influential. It is hoped that we can also understand their differing origins and appreciate and understand how we can use these in our own decision-making process.
