Pharmacist Employment and Satisfaction Trends at ELI Lilly and Company

Abstract

In order to increase the awareness of pharmacy students, practitioners, and Lilly personnel concerning opportunities available to pharmacists within industry, a survey was conducted to investigate pharmacist employment and satisfaction trends at Eli Lilly and Company. This survey was administered to 1088 currently employed Lilly pharmacists, resulting in a 64% response rate. The survey included questions on employee demographics, educational background, employment history, and job satisfaction. Results of the survey revealed that Lilly hires both BS pharmacists (91%) and PharmDs (9%) into a variety of positions including in marketing, medical, regulatory, and sales. These pharmacists are satisfied with their current positions (85%) and their career progression (70%) and chose the pharmaceutical industry primarily for the career opportunities (84%) and job satisfaction (69%).
