Abstract
This article highlights the regulatory and legal aspects of the information that is provided to health care practitioners and consumers by medical communications/drug information departments within the pharmaceutical industry. The legal and regulatory basis for pharmaceutical industry drug information centers (PIDICs) is presented. Then management of regulatory and legal issues by PIDICs is discussed, focusing on avoiding or minimizing risks through due diligence, prudence, and active quality control.
