E. Stanley Jones (1884–1973) is one of the important mission theorists of the twentieth century. Because most of his writings are in some sense autobiographical, he has not been treated in studies of mission theory. This essay describes and analyzes the development of Jones' mission theory. It is argued that part of the power of the theory is that it was framed in the context of autobiographical reflection. Through this reflection Jones sought to bring his understanding of the kingdom of God into congruence with his experiences of life and mission, in India as well as the United States of America.
