Abstract
Fugong County in southwest China is the first “Christian county” in all of China with its rate of Lisu Christians exceeding 90 percent of the population. The county is also among the poorest in China. This essay traces the social impact of Fugong Christians on the local community and their possible contribution to the socio-economic development of the area. It argues the case for holistic ministry as being a strategic approach for bringing about spiritual salvation and economic liberation, not only among the Lisus but also among China's other national minorities that suffer from the twin impediment of physical and spiritual needs.
