Mission into the Third Millennium

Abstract

No one can predict entirely just what direction the future of mission will take. But there are a number of fundamental shifts that have already begun—both in the context and in the conduct of mission—that suggest some significant changes we can anticipate in the coming decades. This article investigates three areas where these fundamental shifts are occurring: (1) who the missionaries will be and from where they will come; (2) the economic and sociopolitical environments in which mission will be carried out; (3) factors arising from the aforementioned changes that will alter missionaries' self-understanding.
