Abstract
Since this important book remains beyond the purview of most of our readers, we are thankful to Guillermo Cook for making this summary available to us. Based on a Brazilian sociological study of the theology from the “underside”, to use Liberation Theology parlance, this book sheds light on the grass roots community phenomena insisting that the religiosity of the very poor should be understood in political terms and not only in cultural and religious terms as heretofore.
