Abstract
Please don't pass by this article just because your interest ranges far beyond our back yard. Sharing common real estate only sharpens the contrast between the value structures of middle-class Americans and American Indians; similar cleavages exist between the middle-American ethos and the ideals of most other peoples. Professor Jennings has given us, in his comparative summations of values, a further tool for understanding ourselves — the indispensable first step in communicating with others.
