Abstract
Taking his point of departure from a recent editorial in PA, the author adduces evidence from Josephus, the Mishnah, and other ancient and modern sources to show that polygyny was common in Jewish and neighboring cultures in biblical times. He also describes the cultural and social problems caused by the traditional strong ban on polygyny imposed by Christian missions.
