Abstract
Though most Protestants in the Philippines recognize and reject the overt doctrines and practices of official Roman Catholicism, they readily and unsuspectingly fall into syncretism with features of ancient Filipino animism and the blend of animism and popular Roman Catholicism which is widespread around them. These include magic, fear of evil spirits, belief in the power of certain signs, respect for taboos, and. recourse to traditional medicine men.
