Abstract
One of the analyses of contemporary American life which help us to understand the network of values, habits, and assumptions which Americans carry with them wherever they go is The Organization Man, by William H. Whyte, Jr. The book has aroused a great deal of discussion. Not all Americans like the picture of themselves shown there, but its general validity seems unquestionable. In this article Paul Clasper discusses the missionary as an organization man. His remarks are directed toward denominational missionaries and mission organizations, but others will recognize themselves as well.
