Abstract
Material from an East African church and an Asian church suggests the necessity and possibility of a new approach to the training and supervision of short-term missionaries. The two cases suggest viewing these missionaries as “trainees” rather than “helpers,” and suggests putting their supervision and spiritual formation directly in the hands of the overseas churches they serve. A concluding discussion explores some of the broader implications of this model for cross-cultural church relations.
