Abstract
A citizen survey needs assessment was conducted in five churches served by a Christian-oriented counseling agency. The purpose of the study was to determine the community's need for professional counseling services. Information was obtained on general demographics, help-seeking attitudes, service utilization, and frequency with which specific problems were experienced. Two hundred ninety-seven subjects completed the survey. It was found that nearly one-third had had some type of therapy experience with a professional. Problems relating to forgiveness, prayer, anger, guilt, anxiety, among others, were found to be commonly experienced and reported. Recommendations were offered regarding possible strategies for meeting the needs.
