This article explores the contribution of Rollo May. psychologist, theologian, mythologist. and artist, to our understanding of the experience of power. While the evangelical Christian will rightfully reject May's humanistic presuppositions. May's thoughts on the power to be, the relationship of community and power, the futility of reason and will, pseudoinnocence. and psychotherapy as an approach to people which involves a real understanding of the human experience rather than mere technique, have profound implications for the practice of ministry.
