Abstract
After discussing major environmental forces for change in higher education, the author draws upon organizational theory to analyze the community college environment with a focus on faculty as the technical core of educational organizations. Based on her analysis, she predicts a change to a more complex and less centralized organizational structure than colleges currently use and an accompanying change in the role of community college faculty from that of instructor-worker to that of learing process manager.
