Aging changes in the Italian population were hypothesized as explaining the overall wine consumption decrease in the period 1970–2000. However, examining both the expected and the observed changes of alcohol consumption in the general population, population age group proportion variations between 1969 and 1999 were found to have no major effect in determining the consumption reduction trend.
