Žižek emphasizes that the Society for the Theoretical Study of Psychoanalysis was in many ways a kind of ruse or front organization for the intellectual activity of himself and his associates. Rather than complying with bureaucratic norms, the main members of the groups would write whatever letters of invitation and application and provide whatever minutes or records necessary to meet a given goal or request.

The designations masculine and feminine do not refer to biological males or females. Rather, the terms designate how a subject's enjoyment is structured. Hence, biological men may have feminine structure and vice versa.
