In single layer closure of laparotomy wounds, all layers including the peritoneum, but excluding the skin and subcutaneous tissue, are sutured together using continuous non-absorbable monofilament material. The experiences in 112 patients are described here. It was found that single layer closure was more effective than classical layered closure.
