Abstract
It has been suggested that ready availability of services and non-payment for these services are the main requirements for improving immunization coverage. This hypothesis has not been entirely supported by the results of a project carried out among the staff of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital. Here it has been found that parents' level of education is also critical. Knowledge and use of services varied with the parents' sex, their educationallevel, and their beliefs about the effectiveness of immunization; and with the part of the hospital in which the particular vaccine was given.
