Staphylococcus saprophyticus is a well documented aetiological organism of urinary tract infections in young sexually active females. This report highlights its role as an added cause of urinary infection in Saudi women and its previously unrecognized importance as a uropathogen in this population. The diagnosis is based on laboratory identification of coagulase-negative staphylococci (novobiocin resistance), absence of haemolysis, and production of intense pigmentation.
