A method of scoring intrauterine growth rates is described. Three factors are employed in the scoring system: serial measurements of the symphysis-fundus height and the abdominal girth in centimetres, and of the maternal weight in kilograms. When these measurements are used in combination, the score is found to be a reliable screening method for recognizing normal and abnormal intrauterine growth patterns. It is quick, inexpensive, and applicable to the most basic mobile unit or clinic.
