Bee stings can cause severe systemic toxicity or anaphylactic reactions, both potentially life-threatening. While bee stings are relatively common, intra-oral stings involving the tongue, pharynx, or larynx are rare. Such injuries may induce edema, leading to severe pain and even airway obstruction.
