Abstract
Ghasis is one of the twentythree groups of Scheduled Castes in Bihar. This is one of the most backward groups. The present paper, besides outlining the Constitutional safeguards and development programmes for SC's, describes the socio-economic problems of Ghasis. It is based on a sample study of two villages in Ranchi district. It points out that the community not only has a very low level of literacy but also suffers from resourcelessness, living virtually on the verge of starvation.
