Abstract
Few empirical studies are available on the caregiver (CG) and care receiver (CR) dyadic interrelationships and their impact on the outcome of caregiving. The sample for the present study consists of 120 care dyads, where the daughters-in-law who were caring for their dependent mothers-in-law, were picked up from the households of Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh. The quality and quantity of care rendered, dyadic inter perceptions, degree of disability, perceived social supports, sense of altruism and temperaments of care dyads were assessed through the standardized instruments developed as part of a research project on elder care. Results indicate that quality of care depended upon the inter perceptions, kinship ties between CG and CR, altruistic value of CG, health status of CG and employment status of the CG. These findings have important implications for caregiving families.
