Abstract
The concept of social security is highly relevant for individuals in times of dependency, like childhood, old age, sickness, accident and unemployment. In the present article origin of the concept of social security system in India is traced. Various schemes for government employees, labourers in organized sectors as well as for those employed in unorganized sectors have been enumerated. Schemes for elderly have been detailed. Further Kerala state has shown a significant demographic transition due to longevity, fertility rate etc. Hence social security system in Kerala state has been systematically analysed especially for elderly group.
