Abstract
Old age is inevitable and its process is not reversible. Everyone has to face it irrespective of religion, caste, and creed. The population of elderly people is growing very fast. A very scant literature on problems of the old in India exists because their problems have not been accorded high priority till recently. Keeping this in mind, the present study was designed to examine the different aspects of elderly people belonging to Muslim community. An area in the surrounding of the Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi was selected for the same. One hundred and four elderly persons of 60 years and above were interviewed with the help of an Interview Schedule. About 43 per cent respondents were females. About 45 per cent perceived their health as poor or very poor. The respondents in the age group of 60-65 years are involved more in household decision making as compared to other age category of respondents (66 years and above). Life satisfaction is found more among the respondents of 60-65 years of age as compared to other age category of respondents. There is a significant relationship between the decision making and life satisfaction, which shows that the respondents having more involvement in the household decision making enjoy more life satisfaction.
