Abstract
The wage employment programmes constitute a major state intervention to eradication of poverty and unemployment in India. During the 1990s Jawahar Rozgar Yojana (JRY) as a major wage employment programme attempted to generate employment to the rural weaker sections, viz. Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, women and the landless through building up of rural social and economic infrastructure. The present study attempts to appraise the performance of districts of Tamil Nadu in the implementation of Jawahar Rozgar Yojana.
