Abstract
A study of women workers in the handloom industries of Panipat district showed that women's employment helped them in gaining some control over financial matter and decisions related to other household activities. Joint decision making had increased after the women workers took up employment. It was found also that the percentage of respondents who had autonomy in household decisions was more in the urban sample than in the rural sample. A significant positive correlation between income of women and women's control over family finances/ role-played in household decision was also found. While earnings of women workers did make an impact on their decision-making authority, still, a large number of women did not have much authority in family matters.
